FOR the fourth consecutive year, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office, in collaboration with the District Engineers League of the Philippines (DELP)-Iloilo Chapter, extended their loving hands thru the reactivation of its “Oplan Balik Eskwela,” program themed “Gamit Pang-Eskwela, Hatid ay Saya.”
33 pupils of Puerto Princesa Primary School in Barotac Viejo received school bags, notebooks, paper, pencil, and other school supplies.
According to District Engineer Flordelis C. Enriquez, the program is an annual activity conducted by DPWH-Iloilo 3rd DEO and DELP-Iloilo, in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Barotac Viejo, Barangay Officials and parents.
“We have adopted Puerto Princesa Primary School in Brgy. Puerto Princesa in Barotac Viejo since 2015 thru the Adopt-a-School program of the Department of Education (DepEd) and every year, we give school supplies to the students including a pair of school shoes for each beneficiary, which symbolically means that DPWH is part of the students’ journey towards achievement of their dreams,” Enriquez said.
Other than giving school supplies, the District repainted, refurbished and cleaned the classroom in preparation for the opening of classes. Electric fans were also donated to the school beneficiary to provide good ventilation, making the classroom conducive for learning.
In addition, the district conducted the Oplan Balik Eskwela in three other schools in Barotac Viejo, namely: Bay-ang National High School, Barotac Viejo National High School, and Culasi National High School as part of the Brigada Eskwela of the DepEd.
The district undertook various maintenance activities such as repair of roads and canals leading to schools, repainting of pedestrian lanes and lane markings and vegetation control within the school vicinity.
DPWH and DepEd are partners in the said program which aims to ensure the smooth and orderly opening of classes in both elementary and secondary schools nationwide. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
