DPWH repairs two Guimaras bridges for stronger connection of communities

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently rehabilitating two major bridges in the island province of Guimaras, namely Mantasic and Mantangingi bridges in Buenavista town along Guimaras Circumferential Road. The rehabilitation efforts aim to ensure the connectivity and travel convenience of motorists and other road users.

According to DPWH Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno, the rehabilitation of these bridges is crucial for continuous traffic flow, providing a safer transportation system for motorists. Bridges play a significant role in infrastructure development, supporting the local economy and connecting communities. They also contribute to the country’s economic development by enabling people to reach work, school, and other destinations.

The rehabilitation efforts will not only improve the stability of the bridges but also enhance their resilience against natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and typhoons. This will ensure that transportation access is not interrupted during such events.

District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal emphasized that the rehabilitation of these bridges brings comfort not only to motorists but also to the community and the general public. It will facilitate unhampered access to basic goods and services, even during high-water levels and floods. The improved bridges will have increased capacity to accommodate heavy vehicles weighing up to 42 metric tons.

The rehabilitation projects for Mantangingi Bridge and Mantasic Bridge have a total cost of ₱20 million and ₱8 million, respectively. The works include retrofitting the bridges, raising the approaches, applying a hot-laid bituminous concrete surface-wearing course, waterproofing the deck slab to prevent damage, and installing solar LED lights and thermoplastic pavement markings for enhanced safety, especially during nighttime.(DPWH-6)
