Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI recently turned over an Isolation/Quarantine facility to the Kabankalan City government in Negros Occidental.
Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro P. Zayco Jr. received the facility in a program that was also witnessed by former Negros Occidental 6th district congresswoman Mercedes K. Alvarez representing Rep. Genaro M. Alvarez Jr., Dr. Cornelio A. Daguia Jr. of Kabankalan City Hospital, and other DPWH officials led by Construction Division Chief Engr. Elsie V. Sabay and District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo of DPWH-Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office.
The facility will be used as temporary shelter/facility for treatment of Covid-19 patients in the city and neighboring areas.
Delfinado said the PHP12.5-million facility, which was funded under the region’s 2020 Special Purpose Fund, was built on a 348-square meter lot in Brgy. Tabugon provided by the Kabankalan City local government.
The project is in support of the country’s fight against Covid-19 through the Bayanihan We Heal as One Act spearheaded by the Interagency Task Force (IATF) and the Department of Health (DOH).
Deflinado said the project included the construction of a 16-room (container van) building, furnished with individual air conditioning unit and comfort room.
Also included in the project is the provision of separate quarters for male and female nurse with two double-deck beds, air conditioning unit and comfort room; nurse station, utility room, generator/power transformer and water tanks.
“This quarantine facility will serve as temporary shelter for the treatment of Covid-19 related cases as well as provide shelter for Locally Strended Individuals (LSIs) in Kabankalan City, who are returning to the city and nearby places, who need to undergo the mandatory quarantine protocol,” Delfinado said.
Mayor Zayco Jr. thanked the DPWH for providing a comfortable facility.
As its contribution towards fighting this pandemic, DPWH committed to continue providing healthcare facilities, not only for Covid-19 patients, but also for medical personnel. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
