Driver pa dies, three kids hurt in Ajuy collision

A 29-year-old father died in a road mishap evening of February 27, 2021 in Ajuy, Iloilo.

Police identified the fatality as Leonard Palmes, a resident of Sitio Inlata, Barangay Bagaygay, Sara, Iloilo.

But while Palmes did not pull through following the mishap, his three children survived.

Lieutenant Danilo Noca, Ajuy police chief, said the incident happened 6:30 p.m. Saturday while the family of four was traversing Poblacion, Ajuy.

The victims were riding a motorcycle on their way home to Barangay Culasi, Ajuy to celebrate the birthday of Palmes’ father.

The incident happened after another motorcycle driven by Willy Roque, 45, of Barangay Tipacla, Ajuy, suddenly overtook a truck. He encroached the lane navigated by Palmes, that led to the collision.

Roque and his back rider, Resti Herida, 38, of Barangay Agbobolo, Ajuy Iloilo were also taken to Sara District Hospital.

All victims survived except for Palmes who was declared dead at about 8:44 in the evening.

Noca said Roque was declared an out-patient as he only a sustained slight injury. He is now detained while charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, serious physical injuries, and damage to property are being readied against him.
