BACOLOD City – A drunk man drowned to his death in a river last Saturday at Barangay San Juan, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental Sunday afternoon.
Lieutenant Rockcliff Buling, head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, identified the fatality as Ramilo Elifan Sr., 36, of the said village.
Buling said Elifan, his wife Evelyn, 33, and their four-year-old son were crossing the river when the victim was hit by a strong current due to heavy rains.
They were on their way home when it happened, Buling said.
Elifan’s wife and son survived but the victim drowned because he was reportedly drunk, Buling said.
Elifan was found around 2 p.m. Sunday.
Meanwhile, Buling said fast crafts weighing 250 tons and below were not allowed to travel yesterday due to a gale warning.
All motor bancas were also not allowed to travel due to the enhanced habagat, he added.
Buling said no passengers were stranded at Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) since Saturday.
