Drunk man violates quarantine rules, punches village chief in Bayawan

BACOLOD City – A man who was reportedly drunk was arrested in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday for allegedly hurting a village chief when he was told to go home since the entire province is under general community quarantine.

Arrested was a certain Margi Garote, 37.

Police records showed that Garote was seen at Barangay Banaybanay violating the quarantine rules. He was advised to go home but he allegedly pulled his knife and went wild which caused public disturbance.

Village chief Gilbert Vicente approached him but the suspect resisted and allegedly punched him on the head.

Village watchmen helped the police neutralize the suspect until he was subdued and placed under police custody.

Police recovered from Garote a knife.

Charges for direct assault of a person of authority are being readied by the police against the suspect.
