The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), distributed P3,000 in cash assistance to each of 1,000 beneficiaries in Iloilo City on Monday, August 19.

The payout was facilitated through the efforts of House Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo City Lone District Representative Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda.

The AKAP program is a government initiative aimed at supporting the “near-poor” segment of society—individuals in the low-income bracket who are struggling due to the effects of rising inflation.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude.

“We now have enough for rice and food,” Agustin Sembrano expressed.

Ranilla Gianzon also shared that the cash aid will cover her three months’ worth of maintenance medication.

Likewise, Jane Villanueva said that the assistance will help her with her medical checkups and medicine purchases.

Last week, over 3,500 individuals also received assistance under the same program.

“We continue to strive to show the Ilonggos the government’s care, especially during this season of need. From the past until now, we are committed to helping those in need,” Baronda stated.
