IN AN effort to uphold women empowerment, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 recently conducted Baisay 2019 debate competitions.
Leo Quintilla, DSWD-6 chief administration officer, said the DSWD debates toward women empowerment aim to enhance and promote critical thinking on issues affecting women.
The debates were deemed to encourage responsible articulation of issues, practice logical reasoning, and empower DSWD employees, Quintilla said.
The activity was also held in line with the celebration of the National Women’s Month last March.
During the competition, four debating teams comprising of members from different divisions in the regional office took part in the activity.
Each team observed balance gender representation, Quintilla said.
The following propositions were tackled during the event: catcalling, wolf-whistling, cursing, and leering be penalized under Philippine Laws and compensation of P2,000 a month to housewives and stay-at-home mothers with children below 12 years old be granted. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
