DTI aids former OFWs in Tigbauan businesses

The Department of Trade and Industry’s Negosyo Center in Tigbauan, Iloilo recently conducted an entrepreneurship consultancy session for former overseas Filipino workers, or OFWs, to help them start and manage their own businesses as they reintegrate into the local economy.

The session focused on entrepreneurship and the fundamentals of starting a business, giving participants practical knowledge and insights on viable livelihood opportunities.

Business counselor Tasha Marie Bravo Mondia served as the resource person and shared her expertise on business planning, management and support services available to aspiring entrepreneurs.

The activity also supported returning OFWs applying for assistance under the Balik-Pinas! Balik-Hanapbuhay! Program of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration of the Department of Migrant Workers.

These government programs are designed to help former migrant workers establish sustainable sources of income through entrepreneurship and other reintegration support services.

Participants received guidance on key aspects of starting a business, including basic entrepreneurial concepts, initial planning and strategies for sustaining a small enterprise.

The consultancy also highlighted the broader services offered by Negosyo Centers, which assist micro, small and medium enterprises, or MSMEs, through business advisory and related support services.

Negosyo Centers were established to improve access to government services for entrepreneurs and to support the growth of MSMEs, which make up the bulk of businesses in the country.

Former OFWs and aspiring entrepreneurs who want to learn more about starting a business may visit Negosyo Center Tigbauan at the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office of the local government unit in Barangay 9, Poblacion, Tigbauan, Iloilo, for further business advisory assistance.
