The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Guimaras has empowered local entrepreneurs through a comprehensive two-day milkfish processing training.
The event, held on June 13-14 at the Agri-Fishery Center of the Provincial Office for Agricultural Services (POAS), aimed to enhance participants’ skills and promote value-added products.
Led by expert food technologist Ma. Leah G. Danasco, the hands-on training covered essential techniques such as deboning milkfish and creating innovative products like lumpia, siomai, sardines in oil, and sardines in tomato sauce.
Participants also received guidance on product pricing and costing strategies, crucial for market success.
“The successful completion of this Skills Training on Milkfish Processing did not only equip participants with essential skills but also reflected DTI Guimaras’s commitment to fostering innovation and capacity-building in the agricultural and fishery sectors,” said Juvy D. Benliro, OIC of DTI Guimaras.
The diverse group of participants, including entrepreneurs, fisherfolk, and aspiring agri-entrepreneurs, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn and enhance their income-generating potential through milkfish processing.
The training concluded with a showcase of the newly created products, demonstrating the practical application of the skills acquired.
Through such initiatives, DTI Guimaras, in collaboration with POAS, continues to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurs by providing skills development, promoting product innovation, and facilitating market access.
These efforts are pivotal in driving economic growth and sustainability in the region.
