DTI Guimaras, TESDA, and DENR representatives engage with SREs during orientation on safety and accreditation at the DTI Board Room, Jordan, Guimaras, October 18, 2024.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Guimaras Provincial Office conducted an orientation for new and existing Service and Repair Enterprises (SREs) on October 18, 2024, in Jordan, Guimaras, aimed at promoting public safety and raising awareness about accreditation requirements.

Held at the DTI Board Room in San Miguel, the event was designed to inform SREs about the importance of complying with Presidential Decree 1572, which mandates the accreditation of service and repair shops to protect consumer interests.

Ms. Melecia U. Pait, Consumer Protection Unit Head of DTI Guimaras, stressed the significance of the law. “DTI is mandated to implement the law by accrediting repair and service firms and their technical personnel to protect the interest of consumers availing their services,” she said.

The orientation also featured key speakers from other government agencies. Ms. Darlene Zaldivar from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Guimaras highlighted the agency’s accredited assessment centers in Region 6, while Ms. Rachel Ann Dequilla from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) discussed environmental protection programs.

As part of the Consumer Welfare Month sub-theme “Right to a Healthy Environment,” Dequilla addressed the dangers of air pollutants from hazardous materials, stressing the importance of environmental responsibility.

The session concluded with a Q&A, providing the 15 participating SREs with an opportunity to raise concerns and deepen their understanding of the discussed topics.

DTI Guimaras continues to promote high standards of safety and environmental responsibility among local service and repair businesses, ensuring that they comply with regulations and maintain consumer trust.
