The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Guimaras launched a Consumer Welfare Desk at Solid Motorcycle Distributor’s, Inc. (SMDI) on October 11, 2024, as part of the Consumer Welfare Month celebration. This initiative aims to enhance consumer protection and promote awareness among businesses and clients.
The event, held at SMDI’s premises in Alaguisoc, Jordan, coincided with this year’s Consumer Welfare Month theme, “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Rights.” SMDI, a DTI-accredited service and repair shop, joined the DTI in its advocacy by opening the desk, which is intended to handle customer complaints and concerns.
The launch was followed by a Consumer Advocacy and Orientation session, which educated participants—including SMDI staff and clients—on consumer-related issues such as rights and responsibilities, types of consumers, and best practices for customer service.
Ms. Juvy D. Benliro, officer-in-charge of DTI Guimaras, praised SMDI for its commitment to consumer welfare. “This desk will help you better serve your clients by addressing their concerns and complaints directly. It’s not only a valuable service but also an excellent marketing strategy that will boost and enhance not only your company’s reputation but your sales as well,” said Benliro.
The initiative is part of DTI Guimaras’ broader efforts to advocate for consumer rights and protection, with the establishment of Consumer Welfare Desks in local businesses playing a key role in strengthening consumer protection in the province.
