ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Capiz on August 30 opened the Coco Bazaar Trade Fair cum Launching of Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan at Robinsons Place, Roxas.
The 3-day-long trade fair, which will run until September 1, features various local coconut products from Roxas City and the Province of Capiz.
The activity is in line with the 36th National Coconut Week Celebration and was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).
One of the highlights of the activity is the launching of the Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).
The CFIDP aims to increase the income and productivity of the coconut farmers in the country; promote poverty alleviation, education, and social equity; and rehabilitate and modernize the Philippine coconut industry.
The CFIDP is composed of various components to be realized by the PCA, in partnership with other government agencies.
DTI Capiz Provincial Director, Ken Queenie R. Cuñada, Regional Industry Cluster Coordinator for High Value Coconut Products (HVCP), proudly announced that Capiz was the first province to implement the CFIDP in the region.
“I am encouraging our coconut farmers to not only plant coconut but become coco entrepreneurs,” she said.
In the CFIDP System Framework, DTI will implement the research, marketing and market promotion.
In the first year of its implementation (2022), DTI has given funds to defray the approved plans, projects and activities under the HVCP Industry Cluster of the province.
The launching was attended by Capiz Vice Governor Jaime Magbanua, Roxas City Councilor Herbert Chu, PCA Regional Manager Dr. Neil Melencion, PCA Provincial Managers from Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Capiz; and representatives from national government agencies.
