DTI, Iloilo City Offer Discounted Essentials at Market Event

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region VI, in partnership with the Iloilo City Government, is set to offer discounted basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) through the “BNPCs sa Barato nga Presyo” initiative at the Merkado Lokal on October 24-25, 2024.

This initiative, part of the DTI’s Consumer Welfare Month celebration, will be held at the Iloilo City Hall grounds along Ortiz Street from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It aims to provide Ilonggos with easier access to affordable essential goods, reinforcing this year’s theme, “Be Smart, Assert Your Consumer Right.”

Participating manufacturers and suppliers, including Century Pacific Food, Inc., Royal Spring Corporation, Mega Global Corporation, and Optimized Customer Solutions, Inc., will offer discounted rates on various products. The initiative allows the public to purchase essentials at more affordable prices amidst rising costs of living.

“This collaboration with Merkado Lokal provides an excellent opportunity for Ilonggos to access quality basic necessities at affordable prices while supporting our local market,” said DTI VI Regional Director Rachel N. Nufable.

She emphasized that the event not only benefits consumers but also supports local producers and entrepreneurs. “By bringing BNPCs to this venue, we aim to serve the steady and increasing market of the city while promoting consumer welfare,” Nufable added.

The two-day event will feature discounted goods alongside local produce from farmers, cooperatives, and private businesses, creating a one-stop shop for consumers engaged in Iloilo City’s growing food and trade economy.

The initiative supports DTI’s ongoing efforts to uphold consumers’ right to basic needs, one of the eight fundamental consumer rights, and reinforces the success of Iloilo City’s Merkado Lokal program.

The program is a key component in the city’s push to foster local businesses and increase accessibility to both essential and local goods for the community.

With essentials like canned goods, bottled water, and hygiene products available at discounted prices, the event is expected to draw in residents looking for both savings and the chance to support local markets.

DTI Region VI’s ongoing initiatives aim to strike a balance between promoting consumer welfare and supporting the growth of local economies.

Through this event, the department also seeks to raise awareness of consumer rights and empower the public to make informed purchasing decisions.
