DTI launches ‘Creative Nation’ to boost PH as Asia’s creative hub

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Acting Secretary Ma. Christina A. Roque has announced the launch of the “We Are A Creative Nation” campaign, part of the upcoming Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) in September 2024.

The campaign aims to position the Philippines as Asia’s premier creative hub by 2030, a strategic vision that emphasizes the pivotal role of the creative sector in national development and economic growth.

During the press conference on August 23, Roque highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation in shaping the socio-cultural and economic landscape of the country.

“Themed #WeAreACreativeNation, this year’s PCIM will showcase the Philippines’ diverse creative outputs in music, visual arts, literature, design, fashion, film, and beyond,” Roque said as quoted in a press statement.

The PCIM 2024 celebration will involve a series of events that promote Philippine creative products and services on a global scale, thereby solidifying the country’s status as a key player in the international creative economy.

The DTI is encouraging various sectors to align their September activities with the PCIM by co-branding or co-banner their events under the campaign using the hashtag #WeAreACreativeNation.

The campaign will bring together creative professionals, industry associations, government agencies, local government units, educational institutions, and corporations in a collaborative celebration of the Philippine Creative Industries.

The month-long event will officially kick off on September 3, 2024, at Ayala Malls TriNoma.

Roque was joined at the PCIM media launch by key figures including DTI Undersecretary Rafaelita M. Aldaba, Congressman Christopher De Venecia—author of the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA)—and representatives from various government departments such as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

These leaders expressed their strong commitment to advancing the creative industries in the Philippines.
