The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with global manufacturing leader Bosch to revolutionize the Philippines’ manufacturing sector through advanced technologies and sustainable practices.
The MOU, signed on June 7, 2024, at the Bosch Rexroth Regional Training Center in Singapore, aims to establish a state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory in the Philippines.
The initiative will introduce cutting-edge technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital manufacturing, to enhance the competitiveness of the local manufacturing landscape.
“Our collaboration with Bosch underscores our commitment to building a robust Industry 4.0 ecosystem in the country. The Pilot Factory will serve as an experiential learning laboratory, equipped with automation technologies powered by Bosch and other technology partners,” DTI Secretary Fred Pascual said in a press statement.
Additionally, the DTI plans to establish the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR) and the National Innovation Gateway this year.
These programs aim to create a comprehensive ecosystem and innovation infrastructure, fostering collaboration among industry, academia, startups, and government to drive innovation and economic growth.
Bosch’s Regional President for Southeast Asia, Vijay Ratnaparkhe, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
“We are proud to collaborate with the DTI to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector in the Philippines. Through this partnership, we will strengthen the country’s industrial capabilities and readiness for advanced technologies, promoting sustainable economic growth and resilience.”
This landmark collaboration between DTI and Bosch marks a significant step towards modernizing the Philippines’ manufacturing sector and preparing it for the future of Industry 4.0.
