The Department of Trade and Industry Region 6 wrapped up its World Consumer Rights Day 2025 celebration with initiatives promoting consumer empowerment and sustainability in Western Visayas.

With the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles,” the event highlighted responsible consumption, ethical business practices and the importance of consumer protection.

The celebration featured activities that engaged consumers, businesses and stakeholders in promoting fair trade and environmental responsibility.

A key highlight was the Consumers Talk on March 12, which brought together consumer groups and Bagwis awardees to discuss sustainability practices.

Representatives from the DTI, Department of Energy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas shared insights during the forum.

Another featured activity was the Sustainability and Wellness Walk on March 14 at Iloilo Sunset Boulevard.

DTI Region 6 and DTI Iloilo employees participated by picking up litter, disposing of waste properly and enjoying the outdoors, while a consumer rights quiz added an interactive element.

The Mine-for-Free initiative encouraged reusing and repurposing items by allowing the public to donate and claim goods at no cost, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

DTI also launched Energy-Smart Week to promote energy conservation and the use of energy-efficient appliances.

The campaign educated consumers on cutting electricity use and adopting eco-friendly habits to minimize environmental impact.

In line with this, the Zero Waste Campaign promoted a zero-waste lifestyle by reducing single-use plastics and practicing proper recycling.

DTI Region 6 also joined the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on March 11, hosted by the Philippine Information Agency-Western Visayas.

Officials emphasized the importance of consumer rights and highlighted DTI’s accomplishments for 2024, including the 100 percent resolution of consumer complaints through mediation.

DTI Region 6 thanked all partners, stakeholders and consumers who supported the celebration.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to building a consumer-friendly marketplace while advancing sustainability in the region.
