The town of Dueñas in Iloilo received awards for its tourism initiatives during the 14th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines – Department of Tourism (ATOP-DOT) Pearl Awards held recently.
In a press release from the Office of the Municipal Mayor of Dueñas, the town was second runner-up in the Best Practices on Community-Based Responsible Tourism category for “Hanas Kina-adman Duenasanon sa Paghabol,” a skills training on Dueñas loom-weaving.
The municipality also received a citation in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the programs, projects, and transformation of the Philippine Tourism Arena for the Best Tourism Month/Week Celebration category.
The awarding ceremony was held at the Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte, a United Nations Educational, and Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage site. The event was part of the 20th ATOP National Convention.
ATOP has consistently been acknowledging the valuable efforts and great contributions of local government units and their respective tourism officers nationwide, the release added.
“Through this, rest assured that the municipality of Dueñas will constantly support the entire Tourism Industry through our credible, equitable and sustainable tourism practices in the municipality,” the press releases stated. (Dueñas LGU/CBA/PIA6)
