BACOLOD City – President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the killing of provincial consultant for hospital operations Mariano Antonio “Marton” Cui III in Negros Occidental, reports from Malacañang indicated last Monday.
The order was issued after Cui’s body was exhumed and autopsied that day upon the approval of his family, according to NBI-Bacolod head Renoir Baldovino.
Cui was gunned down by unidentified perpetrators believed to be armed with a sniper while he was about to ride his car outside the Emerald Arcade in Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City on April 12.
The perpetrators were reportedly sighted fleeing on board a white van.
The family has earlier sought the help of the local NBI for a parallel investigation.
A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) led by Police Colonel Romy Palgue, director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), was also created to focus on probing the incident.
However, police have yet to determine the motive or possible angles behind the murder.
Based on Nocppo’s investigation, three vehicles were placed under probe after they were reportedly sighted in the area on the day the incident happened.
The President also extended his condolences to the family and the people of Negros.
