BACOLOD City – Local health authorities are keeping an eye on a resident of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental after she exhibited flu-like symptoms for suspected Corona Virus Disease (CoVid)-2019.
Mayor Marvin Malacon said on Tuesday that a female teenager is the first Person under Investigation (PUI) reported in the town.
Dr. Frayne Marie Tampus, rural health physician in the town, told Daily Guardian yesterday that the patient was already not feeling well even before she had an interaction with Japanese students who visited the town for immersion on March 2.
Tampus said that the foreign students were placed on a 14-day quarantine period when they traveled to Manila and Cebu before they arrived in the town for their annual immersion.
Tampus said the resident had her first consultation with the municipal health center early this month, followed by another consultation in a private clinic in the neighboring city of Victorias.
Following her second consultation, the clinic recommended to consider her as a PUI after she experienced fever, cough, and difficulty of breathing, she added.
She said the patient was brought to a hospital here and will be subjected to some tests.
She, however, stressed that there’s no confirmed case of CoVid-19 in the town or the province.
Meanwhile, Malacon, in a phone interview, said that he will meet with some concerned agencies, barangay officials, Department of Education (DepEd), and some health personnel from the province on Wednesday to come up with a new approach, precautionary actions, and other preparations.
“It’s too difficult to conclude anything yet because it can cause alarm to the people here. But, we are not lax, we are still investigating,” the local chief executive added.
Malacon said that the town is prepared since January, and equipped with supplies of alcohol and masks to be distributed to different schools, offices, and markets.
He advised the public not to worry because there are no final results yet. He is hoping that the child will feel better soon.
