THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Mechanical Engineering announced that 933 out of 1,983 examinees, or 47.05%, passed the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination in February 2018. Kim Patrick Gonzales of Garcia College of Technology in Kalibo, Aklan ranked number 5 in the Registered Mechanical Engineers Examination.
The Region produced 47 passers out of 90 takers, or 52.22% passing percentage. This is higher than the national passing percentage. On the other hand, 3,092 out of 5,084 examinees, or 60.82%, passed the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination given in August 2018. The Technological University of the Philippines Visayas (TUP-Visayas) from Western Visayas Region ranked number 10 in the national level among schools with 50 or more examinees and with at least 80% passing percentage.
The Region produced 206 passers out of 311 takers, or 66.24% passing percentage. This is higher than that of the national passing percentage.
In the opening of classes for academic year (AY) 2018-2019, the implementation of Republic Act No. 10931 known as Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017 did not allow state colleges and universities (SUCs) and CHED-Recognized local colleges and universities (LUCs) to charge tuition and other school fees to Filipino undergraduate students for as long as they passed or met the admission and retention policies of the said institutions; no previous undergraduate degree; and not overstaying at the college.
The Act includes the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) program that supported students from the poorest of the poor households enrolled in public and private higher education institutions (HEIs).
In AY 2018-2019, around 200,000 college students in the region were back to school. Generally, no enrolment in the second year and third year levels except in those HEIs opted to accept second year and third year college enrollees. Following the big flock of enrollees who just graduated from the Senior High School (SHS) and the implementation of Free Education in state colleges and universities and CHED recognized local colleges, there was a noted increase of enrolment in the tertiary level. Business Education courses were the most popular courses in school followed by Teacher Education and Information Technology.
The PRC announced that 13,774 out of 58,323, or 23.62%, passed the LET Elementary in March 2018. Twenty two thousand nine hundred thirty six (22,936) out of 76,673 or 29.91% passed in the LET-Secondary. The University of St. La Salle (USLS) in Bacolod City (Rank #3), was included in the top performing schools in the national level, in the LET Secondary, with 50 or more examinees and at least 80% passing percentage.
The Region performed high in both examinations for teachers. On the other hand, 18,409 out of 90,750 or 20.29% passed in the LET Elementary and 60,803 out of 126,582 or 48.03% passed in the LET-Secondary held in September 2018.
Citing the PRC results, the West Visayas State University (WVSU) in La Paz, Iloilo City (Rank #2), was included in the top performing schools in the national level, in the LET Elementary, with 50 or more examinees and at least 80% passing percentage. Allen Jake Sajot Talimodao of University of Negros Occidental Recoletos (UNO-R) in Bacolod City ranked number 9 among the successful examinees who garnered the ten (10) highest places in the LET-Elementary in the national level.
Liezel Anne Cordero Peñafiel of West Visayas State University in La Paz, Iloilo City(rank #8), Claire Clamor Magbanua of University of Negros Occidental Recoletos (rank #9) and Eliza Nazareno Reyes of Philippine Normal University Visayas in Cadiz City (rank #9) were included among the successful examinees who garnered the ten (10) highest places in the LET-Secondary in the national level.
