BACOLOD City – The egg ration served to asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients who are under quarantine went viral on social media Thursday night.

But the post also earned the ire of netizens after the head cook of the quarantine center revealed that what circulated on social media was only part of the food ration served in the facility.

A certain Diane Loiuse Mayuga posted a food pack captioned “So my mom is currently in the Quarantine Facility, and this was the breakfast served to them today! Wow? Itlog nalang gani gin 1/4 pa? Nahuya pa kamo mag hatag sang bilog. Basi maubos gid budget niyo?”

Roughly translated, Mayuga complained that her mother was only given ¼ of an egg with rice and a piece of fish tocino.

To debunk the measly ration, the Public Information Office presented a video of the quarantine center’s head cook who presented that the actual food ration for that day was a whole egg, 2 pieces of fish tocino, rice, misua soup, and a banana.

The quarantine center is managed by the Department of Social Services and Development of the Bacolod City government.

The cook lamented that the photo that went viral on social media was not the entire food ration.

She also said that instead of ranting on social media, the complainant should have directed her concerns to the kitchen as they usually cater to patients who want additional food.

The cook added that this was the first time they encountered such problem since the quarantine facility started operating.

She said they have even served food to Overseas Filipino Workers who were quarantined in the facility, and they thanked her for the food.

Some netizens who underwent quarantine in the city’s quarantine facilities said they have no complaints about the food.

On the other hand, the mother of Mayuga said in a recorded video that the issue is only the egg and nothing more.

Councilor Cindy Rojas said “Let us say THANK YOU to all our DSSD DAYCARE TEACHERS who have been manning our community kitchens since May.”

“They have served more than 3,000 LSIS and OFWS and this is the first time we have received a complaint with regards to the food that we serve. I find it unfair to our Daycare Teachers that such post was misleading and has generated so much negative comments from our netizens,” the councilor added.
