EJ Obiena just previewed what he can show in the upcoming 2021 Tokyo Olympics after clinching fourth place during the recently concluded Wanda Diamond League Stockholm.
The Filipino pole vaulting bet went up against Tokyo Olympics-bound athletes and scored a spectacular 5.82 meters in Sweden.
Although a place short of another podium appearance, Obiena and his team expressed how happy they were, especially getting to compete against Olympics-level competition.
Previously, Obiena’s camp confirmed that this is already the last stage of their training and will have a few international tournaments left before the biggest stage in Tokyo kicks off.
World no. 1 Armand Duplantis of Sweden got the top honors after besting everybody with a final tally of 6.02 meters.
The second place was taken by Sam Kendricks with 5.92 meters followed by Renaud Lavillenie of France after reaching the same score on his second attempt.
Obiena had the chance to tie their scores but ended his bid at the 5.92 mark after failing in all of his attempts.
