Elderly man dies, grandson injured in road mishap

BACOLOD City – A senior citizen died while his grandson was wounded when their car crashed into a mango tree after hitting a Ceres bus liner at Purok Gumamela, Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Monday.

Police identified the fatality as Jaime Perido, 67, of Binalbagan town. Wounded was his 18-year-old grandson, a student.

Based on police investigation, Perido was riding a sedan driven by his grandson on their way here when the latter reportedly overlapped on the opposite lane and hit the left side of the bus that was traveling to Bago City.

The car then swerved and crashed into a mango tree.

The two victims suffered injuries and were brought to Bago City Hospital, but Perido was declared dead on arrival.

The bus driver was placed under police custody. Both parties have yet to meet.
