BACOLOD CITY — Police are preparing homicide charges against a 49-year-old laborer who allegedly stabbed and killed a 73-year-old man in Barangay Inolingan, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Antonio Gavaran, 73, a resident of the same village.
Police Lt. Arnolfo Robles, deputy chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said the incident began when the victim reportedly teased the suspect after the latter lost in a game.
The suspect retaliated verbally, which irritated the victim and led to an alleged punch that hit the suspect on the right jaw.
The suspect, angered by the incident, stabbed the victim in the chest with a kitchen knife, Robles said.
Authorities recovered the murder weapon, and the suspect voluntarily surrendered to police after the incident.
Robles added that they are awaiting the results of the victim’s postmortem examination to finalize the necessary documents for filing the case.
