Eloy Poligrates is out to prove his former PBA D-League team, the Marinerong Pilipino, wrong with their decision not to re-sign the veteran gunner.
Poligrates set the D-League record for the most points scored with 67 including 11 three-pointers that also garnered him the MVP award last 2019.
However, as the D-League was about to start its new chapter, Marinero did not re-sign or offer Poligrates a new contract that prompted MPBL’s Rizal-Xentro Mall to make a move and acquire the ex-PBA player.
“Sana maipakita ko sa kanila na nagkamali sila sa pinili nilang desisyon,” said Poligrates who also led Marinero to the D-league finals in his stellar season.
Now given a chance by the Rizal squad, Poligrates hopes to lift the team to a whole new level and prove the doubters wrong.
Poligrates, before signing with Rizal, first saw action with the Cebu Sharks, Poligrates’ inconsistency led the team to waive him. The veteran gunner would later find another home in Valenzuela City but was also eventually freed up.
For Poligrates, Rizal signing him is a new opportunity to revamp himself and re-introduce who he is on the hard-court.
Also, the left-handed scoring machine is thankful for the new chance he got from Rizal and vows to place the team on the winning track.
“Mas gusto ko ‘yung alanganin na team para, kumbaga. Kung maaangat ko ‘to, sama-sama kami lahat. Hindi naman tayo si Superman na kaya natin buhatin lahat, di ba?” Poligrates said.
