ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 45-year-old farmer with epilepsy drowned while crossing the Badbaran River on Thursday afternoon, August 22, in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Dumarao, Capiz.

The victim, known locally as “Dodoy,” slipped while crossing the river around 5 p.m. and was unable to reach the opposite bank.

A concerned citizen immediately informed the victim’s family, who then sought help from the town’s rescue team.

The rescue team conducted a search and rescue operation and found the victim unconscious. He was brought to Sen. Gerry Roxas Memorial District Hospital in Dao town, where the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.

The family believes that an epileptic seizure led to the drowning.

In a separate incident, a 12-year-old boy died after being accidentally electrocuted while looking for spiders on Wednesday evening, August 21, at a fishpond in Sitio Bang-bang, Barangay Cagay.

According to Barangay Kagawad Dario Ernesto, the boy, known as “Kano,” was with two companions searching for spiders around 6:30 p.m. when he accidentally touched a live wire.

Ernesto speculated that the boy might have slipped while walking along the fishpond and came into contact with a live wire from the nipa hut used by caretakers.

The victim sustained burns on various parts of his body, including his hands and fingers. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
