ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 33-year-old inmate who escaped while under 14-day quarantine at the Ligtas COVID Center of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Sitio Lonoy, Barangay Sta. Cruz in Dumalag, Capiz was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
Christopher Formalidad of Cabatuan, Iloilo was collared by barangay officials and tanods of Barangays Quinayuya and Quinacaban both in Dao town.
Dionesio Inyagan, Punong Barangay of Kinabcaban, Dao said that he himself met the inmate along the way. He asked where he will go and the escapee replied that he will shoot birds.
But the village official became suspicious after noticing that Formalidad did not bring any gun.
Minutes later, Inyagan met the barangay tanod of Barangay Quinayuya who asked him if he met a man wearing a yellow shirt and had a tattoo on his hand.
Inyagan was then informed by the barangay tanod that the person was an escapee from the BJMP in Dumalag.
The village chief then called fellow barangay officials and tanod to accompany the police in arresting Formalidad, who was jailed for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
