An ex-convict escaped arrest during a drug raid at his home in Barangay Dalid, Calinog, Iloilo, on the evening of October 10.

Velmar Castroverde fled his residence before police operatives could execute the search and seizure operation.

In his absence, members of the Calinog Municipal Police Station, along with the 602nd Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the 2nd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company, searched his house under Search Warrant No. 24-31 for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police recovered three sachets of suspected shabu inside a maroon sling bag.

Major Myles Dieron, Calinog police chief, said the seized drugs weighed approximately 120 grams, with an estimated street value of PHP816,000.

The suspect was previously arrested for a drug-related offense on April 15, 2017.

He was released from jail on July 5, 2019, after entering a plea-bargaining agreement.
