BACOLOD CITY — Police are investigating possible motives, including revenge, personal grudges, or drug-related reasons, in the killing of a former convict in Abada Escay, Barangay Vista Alegre, early Thursday.
The victim, identified as “Rolly,” 40, a resident of the same village, had just arrived at a relative’s house when an unidentified assailant shot him around 2 a.m.
Police Capt. Dax Santillan, head of Police Station 7, said the gunman, who was believed to have accomplices, may have followed the victim, who was riding a motorcycle en route to his relatives.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Police recovered two spent shells from a suspected 9mm caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Santillan said the victim was previously jailed for frustrated murder and had served time at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City before his release in 2020.
He suggested that the killing could be an act of retaliation linked to the victim’s previous case or possibly the result of a personal grudge.
Police are also investigating potential connections between the victim’s death and illegal drugs, although Santillan declined to provide further details.
