Ex-convict shot dead

BACOLOD City – Policemen here are eyeing two angles behind the death of an ex-convict who was gunned down by unidentified perpetrators on a motorcycle along Luzuriaga Street, Barangay 13 here Monday.

Police Major Ramel Sarona, head of Police Station 1, said they are looking into personal or retaliation in relation to a previous homicide case involving the victim identified as Benvienido Gellanga, 52, of Barangay Singcang-Airport here.

Sarona said the victim was walking towards a passenger jeepney when the perpetrators probably tailed him.

Upon reaching an area where there were no people, the perpetrators allegedly shot Gellanga at close range then fled.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds that caused his immediate death.

Police recovered from the scene four empty fired cartridges of .9mm caliber ammunition, two slugs of .45 caliber ammunition, and two empty fired cartridges of the same ammunition caliber.

Sarona said the victim was just renting a house at Barangay 13 where he was working as an e-bike driver.

Sarona said the victim’s previous case was committed a few years ago here, victimizing his cousin.

“Basi may personal siya na kontra or puwede man balos,” he added.

Sarona said the victim was released from a penal colony in Palawan in 2018 after serving his sentence for the said crime.

Sarona said they are also checking the background of the victim for other activities that may be linked to the killing.
