Ex-councilman nabbed for loose firearms

BACOLOD City – A former barangay councilor of Dian-ay village in Escalante City, Negros Occidental was arrested in a gun raid last Tuesday.

Armed with a search warrant, operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Negros Occidental, in coordination with other police units, raided the house of former Kagawad Dominador Talbo, 50.

The search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law was issued by Executive Judge Amy Avellano of Regional Trial Court in San Carlos City.

Authorities conducted the raid following reports that the former barangay official was allegedly possessing high-powered firearms.

Police recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, six shells of the said firearm, a magazine and 10 live ammunition of .45 caliber pistol, .9mm caliber pistol, four magazines and 80 live ammunition of .9mm caliber pistol, R4 rifle 5.56, seven magazine and 164 live ammunition of R4 rifle 5.56.

The suspect failed to present any pertinent documents authorizing him to own and possess firearms, according to the police.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil Despi, city police chief, said that Talbo, who was charged for the said offense, is set to post bail for his provisional liberty.
