Ex-Kagawad Nabbed for Illegal Firearms in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A former barangay kagawad was arrested for illegal possession of firearms during a police operation in Barangay Bahit, Panitan, Capiz on the morning of March 21.

Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Capiz implemented a search warrant against the suspect, identified only as alias “Bukol,” 40, at his residence.

The search warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 14 in Roxas City on March 19, 2025, for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Authorities recovered a red caliber .9mm pistol with three magazines loaded with 31 live rounds, a black holster for the pistol, and a 12-gauge long-barrel shotgun with a magazine containing three live rounds.

According to Barangay Kagawad Roy Dequiña, the suspect had been the subject of complaints from neighbors for alleged indiscriminate firing.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Panitan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
