BACOLOD City – Three former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) received financial assistance from the local government unit (LGU) of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, after returning to the folds of the law last week.
The rebel returnees each received a check worth P10,000 and other assistance from Mayor Ernesto Estrao, after surrendering to the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion (IB) on Aug 5, 2020.
2nd Lieutenant Weann Sandag, 15th IB Civil Military Operations Officer, said the cash assistance from the LGU is a great help to the former rebels, especially in this time of pandemic.
“They should utilize it wisely to sustain their needs,” he added.
Estrao expressed his appreciation of the desire of the three former rebels to start living a normal life with their family without fear.
Estrao said the government together with the 15th IB and the police are ready to accept and help those who still want to return to the folds of the law.
However, the development of our life should not always depend on the government, but we ourselves are also responsible for the betterment of our life,” he added.
