A FORMER seafarer was gunned down early evening of April 3, 2019 in Sibunag, Guimaras.
Joel Gasangan, 38, was driving his motorcycle along Barangay Maabay when he was shot.
Police investigation indicated that Gasangan came from Sitio Camulong in Barangay Maabay and was on his way home when the incident happened.
Police Captain Rico Sta. Ana, Sibunag police chief, said Gasangan succumbed to a gunshot wound on the back of his head. He was declared dead at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital in Jordan town.
A resident claimed to have heard a single gunfire but did not see any person or vehicle pass by.
Sta. Ana said the area is dimly lit and the resident only discovered the wounded Gasangan when he checked the area.
As this developed, police investigators are looking at personal grudges as possible motive of the incident.
We dont see his link to politics or a third party affair, Sta. Ana said.
Police are considering that Gasangan had a passenger with him when the incident happened.
Sta. Ana refused to divulge more details but claimed they already have a person of interest.
Gasangan stopped his seafaring career five years ago after it was found out that he had a heart ailment.
During weekdays, he would bring his teacher-wife to work.
A month ago, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) sounded alarm over unresolved murder cases in Guimaras province.
