BACOLOD City – A family from Bantayan, Cebu believed there was foul play in the death of their loved one who was found floating in the waters of Guimaras last Thursday.
Major Ritchie Gohee, head of Police Station 9, said the remains of Christian Ducay, 26, an apprentice of a cargo ship, was identified by his mother and sibling who went here last Saturday.
Two fishermen found Ducay’s body and brought it to the coastal area of Barangay Sum-ag here, where they sought the help of the authorities.
Gohee said the captain of a cargo ship reported to Bayawan City police in Negros Oriental on the night of February 23 that one of their colleagues jumped off the vessel due to a mental breakdown.
But based on the statement of the victim’s mother, she was able to talk to his son on Thursday morning, wherein he informed her about the alleged threats he received from his four colleagues in the ship, Gohee said.
Gohee, however, said the victim’s mother did not reveal the names of the four persons.
Gohee said that Ducay’s family did not believe that he jumped off from the ship.
Gohee said the victim, according to his mother, wanted to stay in Bayawan City, a day before the ship’s departure, but he was not allowed by his colleagues, until the incident happened.
The victim’s body was subjected to autopsy and will be transported back to Cebu.
Meanwhile, Gohee said the family thanked the fishermen for helping them locate Ducay’s body.
