BACOLOD CITY – The family of a call center agent found dead in Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday is seeking justice while addressing the accusations surrounding her death.
In a statement sent to the Daily Guardian on Monday, the family of 31-year-old Carl Kimberlyn Degabi of Barangay Mandalagan expressed their heartbreak over her tragic death and the victim-blaming narratives circulating online.
A family member, who requested anonymity, said they are devastated not only by Degabi’s death but also by baseless accusations labeling her as a “scammer” in social media posts. Police are investigating this angle, but the family noted no formal complaints have been filed to support such claims.
“All we want is for her to have the peace she was denied in life, a peace we are still fighting for as the investigation continues,” the family said.
They added that her death has become a public spectacle, with people making hurtful accusations and insensitive comments online.
“She is gone now, and we can’t begin to imagine the fear and terror she endured. She’s no longer here to defend herself,” the family said.
The family condemned those mocking Degabi’s death or calling it “karma,” describing such behavior as cruel and heartless.
“To those who do, I hope you never experience the pain of losing someone you love to a senseless crime. We are grieving and trying to find justice for her,” the family said.
They called on the public to stop spreading falsehoods and allow them to mourn in peace.
Degabi was found with injuries to her mouth a day after leaving her home on Saturday night. Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine her cause of death.
Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), said they are also waiting for swab test results to determine if Degabi was sexually assaulted.
Catalogo added that they are coordinating with the Bacolod City Police Office to trace the people or locations linked to the victim before the incident.
