BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating two possible motives behind the death of a 59-year-old farmer at Sitio Cabanbanan, Purok 7, Barangay Camalandaan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, last Thursday.

The victim was identified as Danilo Bensing, a resident of the same village.

Police Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao, the town police chief, said Bensing informed his wife that he would have coffee at his son’s house around 7 a.m.

However, while his son was walking to check on him, he discovered the victim’s lifeless body with suspected gunshot wounds.

Garinganao noted that the circumstances of the incident are unclear as there were no witnesses.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact nature of the victim’s injuries.

Garinganao said they are considering revenge stemming from a grudge as a possible motive.

He added that both the victim and his son were previously involved in a murder case, although only the son was charged.

The police are also looking into the possibility that the incident could be insurgency-related, but Garinganao did not provide further details.

Additionally, Garinganao mentioned that the victim had been the subject of complaints about his behavior when intoxicated.
