BACOLOD CITY – Police are investigating personal grudges as the motive behind the killing of a 51-year-old farmer in Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB), Negros Occidental, on Monday.
Police Major Ryan Villasario, head of the DSB Police, identified the victim as Nelger Zayco, a resident of the same village.
According to Villasario, the 19-year-old suspect arrived at a fishpond at around 8 a.m. and shot Zayco in the back.
The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities recovered four live rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition at the scene.
Villasario speculated that the suspect might have monitored the victim’s activities prior to the attack.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the alleged grudge between the suspect and the victim.
The suspect, who is also a farmer, remains at large but has been identified by authorities.
