Farmer Shot Dead in Front of Son, Partner

BACOLOD CITY – A 54-year-old farmer was shot dead in front of his live-in partner and their seven-year-old son at Sitio Huwebesan, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Danny Brazona of the same village.

Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr., the town police chief, said the couple had just accompanied their son to school when they were ambushed by a group of unidentified armed men.

Benoman said the perpetrators shot Brazona, but his partner and son were unharmed.

The police have yet to determine the motive for the killing.

Benoman added that a background check on the victim is ongoing.

Meanwhile, in San Carlos City, 49-year-old Jonathan Yap was also gunned down by an unidentified assailant at Sitio Sumulog, Barangay Buluangan, on Tuesday.

Police Major Ryan Villasario, deputy chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, said Yap was riding his motorcycle to work when he was shot.

The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Police recovered a spent shell from a .45-caliber firearm at the crime scene.

Villasario said the motive is still under investigation, and the victim’s family has yet to provide information that could aid the police.

He added that they could not yet confirm if Yap was an insurance agent.
