Festive Walk Iloilo is spreading holiday cheer with the launch of its Pagtitilingub Christmas celebration, highlighted by the lighting of a 20-foot Christmas tree adorned with native materials crafted by local artisans.
On Thursday, November 7, mallgoers experienced the season’s magic during the grand Christmas tree lighting, featuring woven and native decorations made by the Mat Weavers of Concepcion, Iloilo.
To further celebrate Ilonggo creativity, Festive Walk Iloilo unveiled its Handmade Wonders exhibit, showcasing sustainable, handcrafted products by the Mat Weavers.
The Mat Weavers is a women-led, community-based organization in Sitio Tagbak, Barangay Plandico, Concepcion, with 80 percent of its members being senior citizens.
“Our goal is not only to celebrate Christmas but to honor the unique spirit of Iloilo at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls,” said Karmela Jesena, Festive Walk Iloilo General Manager.
“This year’s celebration seeks to create meaningful experiences that resonate deeply within our community, adding an extra layer of warmth and connection to the holiday season,” she added.
The launch event featured the lively Tultugan Festival of Maasin, Iloilo.
The Tultugan Festival was awarded 1st runner-up and Best in Musical Accompaniment in this year’s Aliwan Fiesta street dance competition and also placed 1st runner-up in the Tugtog ng Aliwan contest.
Festive Walk Iloilo further delighted the Ilonggo community with a stunning fireworks display to officially open the holiday season.
The Handmade Wonders exhibit will run in the Festival Walk Mall stores from November 15 to 30. Shoppers who spend PHP 5,000 on products will receive a complimentary customized bag as a token of appreciation.
Performances by the Irong Irong Dance Company added to the festivities, captivating the audience with traditional dances and the rhythmic beats of folk music, enhancing the holiday atmosphere.
Throughout the season, Festive Walk Iloilo is dedicated to supporting local industries and showcasing Ilonggo craftsmanship through various events.
Among the highlights is Festive Fabrics, an exhibit featuring works by internationally renowned designers Jackie Penalosa and Jeff Ticao, along with an interactive weaving display by Balai Ilonggo.
The Iloilo’s Treasures Fair invites visitors to explore and shop for local food and artisan products, celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage.
With these initiatives, Festive Walk Iloilo is not just celebrating the holidays but empowering local artisans and fostering a space for community support and the spirit of giving.
