Fifteen more persons nabbed for cockfight

Fifteen more persons were arrested after they were caught in separate cockfights in Aklan province.

The latest to be arrested were nine suspects who were collared 7:40 p.m. of Aug 9, 2020 at Barangay Andagao, Kalibo town.

They were identified as Rodrigo Calas, 60; Jay-R Colas, 34; Alex Mendoza, 50; Delmar Marin, 21; and Jonathan Zolina, 29. All are residents of Poblacion, Kalibo.

The other suspects were Niño Pinos, 37, and Romeo dela Cruz, 53, both residents of Andagao village; Jowin Adano, 27, of Poblacion, Malinao town; Glenn Pison, 31.

Joint elements of the Provincial Special Operation Task Group on Illegal Gambling (PSOTGIG) and Kalibo Police Station conducted the anti-illegal gambling operation following a tip from a civilian informant.

Recovered during the operation were P6,480 bet money; five dead and five live fighting cocks; a weighing scale; and a box of gaffing paraphernalia.

Two days before that, local police in Numancia also arrested six persons for the same offense at Barangay Badio.

They were identified as Mark Jo Gomez, 35, Nel John Cabahug, 45, and Diosdado Milloroso, 18, all residents of Barangay Dongon East.

Also arrested were Julio Octavio, 45, Dennis Escalona, 33, and Jyad Jamco, 22, all residents of Badio village.

Several suspects managed to flee.

Five days prior to that, Numancia police also arrested eight cockfight enthusiasts.

The suspects will be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974).
