In support of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the Filipino American Cancer Care (FACC)® encourages everyone to observe World Cancer Day today, February 4, 2021.
FACC is joining many community organizations from 172 countries around the globe under a singular initiative against the global cancer epidemic.
In light of Covid‐19, World Cancer Day 2021 is dedicated to the courage and achievements of people living with cancer and their families, as well as the nurses, doctors, researchers, volunteers, advocates and others who care for them and work on their behalf.
This important day highlights the need for urgent action to increase cancer prevention, early detection, screening and diagnosis to save lives. FACC aims to inspire action from individuals, the health community and governments to improve public awareness and access to early detection, screening and diagnosis.
FACC believes that through our positive actions, we can reach the target of reducing the number of premature deaths from cancer and noncommunicable diseases one third by 2030. FACC will be hosting a virtual bingo on February 27, 2021 to raise funds in supporting four children with leukemia for their treatments at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Roxas City, Philippines.
FACC is also sponsoring the 2021 Letters of Love Contest that hopes to honor those who are fighting and those who have been lost to this dreadful disease. We want to remember those people who showed kindness and inspiration so that hopefully one day many in society will not be touched by cancer.
During the entire month of February, FACC will use its radio platform “On the Air With FACC” to highlight patient battles and their successes, and show the innovative responses of cancer organizations around the world, during the stress of the pandemic. World Cancer Day will also engage people from nations around the world in a collective effort to make sure that the voice of cancer patients is heard and to show that together our actions matter.
“Cancer is a global challenge and knows no borders. Recent studies estimate about one out of six people worldwide died from cancer – that’s more than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. We want people to know that many cancers can be managed and even cured, especially if they’re detected and treated as early as possible. By detecting cancer at its earliest stage, we seize the greatest opportunity to prevent millions of avoidable deaths worldwide,” according to Josie Ziman, FACC Founder/President who hails from Iloilo.

By doing this FACC can help transform the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, benefitting people with the disease both here in the US, Philippines and around the world. We are extremely proud to select these cancer children patients as the 2021 recipients of our FACC Cancer Charity Financial Assistance Grant initiative since these kids have special place in our hearts and we embraced them as part of our own cancer community and family.”
Established in February 2020, FACC is a newly formed 501 (c)(3) non-stock, non-profit, non-political, charitable and all volunteer-based cancer organization in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area that is dedicated to serving the Fil- Am cancer community.
FACC’s primary mission is to C.A.R.E. about Filipino, Filipino-American and anyone medically underserved in the Philippines and United States by assisting those impacted by cancer.
Its FACC’s vision rest into four (4) major pillars of C.A.R.E. which denotes Collective outreach programs designed to fit our unique culture for our community, Advocate for better comprehensive cancer care during and after/post treatment, Research tools for cancer patients, survivors, family members, and caregivers regarding financial assistance, and lastly Educate our community on cancer prevention, early detection, screening and treatment options.
