Fire razes 18 market stalls in La Castellana

BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Negros Occidental is still probing the cause of a fire that initially razed 18 stalls inside the public market in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana town early Monday, April 10.

Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, provincial fire marshal, said the fire broke out around 1:15 a.m. It was then raised to second alarm after 30 minutes when the fire grew bigger, he added.

Legaspi said that BFP personnel had challenges during the response, considering the distance and the terrain.

Legaspi said that firefighters from neighboring stations also augmented in the area.

Fire out was declared at about 2:59 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Legaspi said that the estimated cost of damage was pegged at P7 million.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental fifth district Rep. Emilio “Dino” Yulo III extended assistance to the affected store owners during his visit later that day.
