A fish vendor was found dead on September 2 by the roadside in Dumarao, Capiz.

Remmuel Dejada, 36, of Barangay Mahunod-hunod, Cuartero town suffered injuries on his neck and back when he was spotted at Sitio Calabnan, Barangay Astorga, Dumarao.

Members of Cuartero Municipal Police Station responded after it was reported that the dead person was found in the area.

But Major Christian Majometano, Cuartero police chief, said they later found out that the area is within the jurisdiction of Dumarao town.

Based on their initial investigation, the victim left home for Barangay Bailan, Pontevedra town to buy fish. It is believed that he was waylaid along the way.

The victim’s sling bag containing around P10,000 cash was missing.

Majometano said the victim could have been struck with a hard object on his back.

“He could have also been strangled,” he said.

The victim was still taken to Dao District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Major Christopher Candelario, Dumarao police chief, said they have referred the case to the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), which will decide on who will take cognizance of the case.

In the meantime, police have yet to establish the suspect/s behind Dejada’s death.
