BACOLOD City – A fisherman succumbed to multiple injuries after his fishing boat was allegedly hit by an unidentified Roll-on Roll-off (RORO) cargo vessel in the waters off Sitio Pangayuhan 1, Barangay Washington, Escalante City, Negros Occidental Tuesday.
The casualty was identified as Je-ar Caspe, 29, of the said village.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, said Caspe and his father boarded separate fishing boats around 9 p.m. Monday when the victim figured in the accident early the following day.
Benjamin said the victim’s father saw how the RORO vessel destroyed the boat of his son, but he could not identify which vessel it was.
He retrieved his son’s body and brought it to their house. He then reported the incident to the authorities.
Benjamin said they already have an idea of the suspect RORO ship involved in the mishap.
He said they will first investigate the management of the ship.
