Five killed in freak accidents

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Five persons, including two minor girls, were killed in drowning and shooting incidents on Thursday here and three towns of Capiz.

Two sisters aged 10 and 8 drowned to their deaths at Barangay Poblacion Tabuc, Maayon town.

Victims Joy and Juana of Barangay Agloway, Panitan were last seen alive while playing by the riverside.

But their grandmother failed to notice that the two went swimming.

The two girls later disappeared in the water. Bystanders rescued and brought the two to the hospital where they died.

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old grandfather was stabbed to death by his grandson at Sitio Agkaningay, Barangay Bilao, Sapian town.

Mario Delgado succumbed to fatal stab wounds on the left side of the body allegedly inflicted by his 19-year-old grandson Sammy Delgado.

Police reports indicated that the suspect was sleeping when his drunk grandfather arrived and became unruly.

The suspect was awakened by the noise. He then took a knife from their kitchen and stabbed Mario.

The victim died at the hospital.

In Tapaz town, a 54-year-old man died after he shot himself with a homemade shotgun at Barangay San Nicolas.

According to Patrolman Rafe John Funtilar, Tapaz Municipal Police Station investigator, the victim’s wife heard gunfire inside their house.

When she checked, she saw her bloodied husband on the floor.

Recovered from the crime scene was a 12-gauge shotgun. The victim had tried to commit suicide twice before.

Police believe that the victim was suffering from mental depression.

On the other hand, a senior citizen died after she was accidentally pinned by the concrete wall of an abandoned house at Sitio Pook, Barangay Culasi here.

Police identified the victim as Josefina Villanueva who was living alone in a nipa hut beside the abandoned house.

The victim died instantly due to head injuries.
