BACOLOD City – Around 50 percent of houses in two villages in Cauayan, Negros Occidental were affected by flood brought about by heavy rains last Wednesday.
According to Louie Lagulao of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the flood that reached chest level occurred following heavy rains that lasted for about an hour.
“Gulpyada lang gid ang pag ulan,” he said.
Affected households were situated in low-lying areas in Barangays Poblacion and Man-uling.
Lagulao said they are waiting for the official report on the damages and number of affected households.
Despite the flooding, he said that no evacuation occurred, as the floodwater subsided later that day.
No casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, in a video posted by Rhendo John Delos Reyes, the flood destroyed their sari-sari store, computer shop, and eatery situated in an elevated part of a creek in Barangay Man-uling.
Delos Reyes said they didn’t save anything from the store because everything happened so fast.
“Nag guwa lang ko kadali, pagbalik ko amo na ni natabo, wala gid kami may nasalbar, zero naman kami balik,” he added.
Delos Reyes said the barangay has already listed their names to avail of the assistance.
But he is also seeking help from anyone so that they can start anew.
