An elderly foreman was found dead at his sleeping quarters at the construction site where he was working.

The body of Froilan Bernas, 63, a native of Capiz who resided in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City, was discovered inside the stockroom, which also served as his sleeping place, at Barangay Benedicto, Jaro district.

The ongoing construction project was for the City Health Office.

Captain Jeffrey Delgado, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 9, said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds on his abdomen, chest, and arms.

Delgado noted that Bernas’ injuries on his arms were likely defense wounds.

His co-worker, Felix Lemoncito, found his stab-riddled body around 6:30 a.m. on July 8. A towel also covered his face.

Delgado mentioned that the victim was last seen by his co-workers before he went to sleep on Sunday evening.

His co-workers claimed they did not hear any noise during the night.

Delgado said they have no person of interest in the incident yet.

However, police investigators are considering robbery as the possible motive, as the victim’s money amounting to around PHP 20,000 and his mobile phone were missing.
