Four riders killed in road mishap

Four motorcycle riders were killed in a traffic collision in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras evening of May 19, 2019.

The victims were identified as Elven Gamlanga and Joemarie Trono, both 18 years old and residents of Sitio Talisay, Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Valencia; and Andy Magon, 15, of Oracon village, Nueva Valencia, and John Rey Castor, 21, a native of Tapaz Capiz but was temporarily staying at Barangay Oracon.

Police Captain Henry Gaborno, Nueva Valencia police chief, said the four victims were riding on two motorcycles when the collision happened 10 p.m. Sunday at Barangay Concordia Sur.

Gamlanga was driving a Yamaha 150 motorcycle (license plate number 20089) with Trono as his back rider.

They came from Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Valencia and were heading to Barangay San Miguel in Jordan town when the incident happened.

Gaborno said Gamlanga was running at a high speed and encroached the opposite lane.

“We also learned that he only knew how to drive a motorcycle just recently,” he said.

Due to the impact of the incident, Castor was thrown off the motorcycle several meters from the crash site.

The victims were rushed to the hospital but Gamlanga, Trono, and Castor died shortly after.

Gaborno said Magon was declared dead morning of Monday.

The four fatalities were not wearing crash helmets when the incident happened.
